Within
the Province of Quebec, all teacher education programs must deal with
twelve broad competencies which are stipulated in the description of
the BEALS program (www.ulaval.ca). This course contributes to
the
development of these competencies as follows:

4. Content
This course is designed to introduce the future ESL teacher to computer applications that can be integrated into teaching methods in order to meet the objectives of the MEQ
Word processing; spreadsheets; Internet browsing; Internet research; presentation software and hardware; Email; the Internet; Internet/computer resources for the ESL teacher; scanning documents and multimedia technology are the main components.
5. Methodology and class organization
Activities will include:
- workshop style projects - discussions & feedback (small group and whole class)- demonstrations of applications- cooperative learning activities- lectures- Computer lab work (outside of regular classtime)

A. Formative evaluation:
A major role of the class work is to provide students with feedback and promote critical reflection on applications of computer technology in their language teaching practices. Feedback is also provided through discussion when all the students are together in the larger group; both peer and instructor feedback will be provided during class work and project presentations.
B. Class Work, Projects and Assignments
There will be various projects & assignments that together will make up 50% of your final mark. The goal of these projects & assignments is to help you acquire and practice the skills developed in class as well as discover possible methods for integrating technology into your personal teaching practices.
C. Final Exam
The final exam is worth 50% of the final grade and will cover most skills presented and practiced in class in the workshops and projects. It is a practical exam where the student is asked to perform various tasks to demonstrate the abilities they have aquired during the course.

7. HANDING IN ASSIGNMENTS
If you are absent or unable to hand in
an
assignment on time due to exceptional circumstances,
you should discuss with me
in advance and we will probably be able
to come to an arrangement.
If you cannot hand in an assignment to me personally, please leave it at the Kiosque d'information at the Faculté des lettres, located on the third floor of the Pavillon Charles-de Koninck (Hall Émile-Nelligan, sector 3200), during regular office hours (8:30 - 12:00 and 1:30 - 5:00). Should I not receive the assignment, you will then have proof of having handed it in.
Late assignments will not be accepted.
Make
back-up copies of all work and projects.
Computer/Internet/Email failure or error are not valid or acceptable
reasons for late assignments.
